Welcome!
Hello, and thank you for visiting my page. I’m Erica Varner-Anderson, a Clinical Therapist passionate about helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and find fulfillment. Here is a bit about me:
Education and Professional Background
I obtained my Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting from Savannah State University, my Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Georgia Southwestern State University, and my Master of Science (MS) in Marriage and Family Counseling/Therapy from Capella University. I am working toward completing my Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision at Capella University, with an estimated graduation year of 2025. I have worked in the mental health profession since 2019. However, before starting this venture, I worked in accounting and finance in the corporate world for about ten years. I have experience teaching business, finance, general education, and clinical mental health counseling courses in higher education.
Licensure and Certifications
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Arizona. In addition to this credentials, I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Board Certified in Telemental Health (BC-TMH) through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). I am approved to provide clinical supervision in Arizona. Please check out more information on clinical supervision services in the “services” section.
Counseling Approach and Expertise
In a counseling setting, I lean towards an eclectic approach. This means that I do not adopt a single or a set of therapeutic approaches. However, I tend to read the room with clients and incorporate the approach that best fits their needs. This approach has been known to set more of an informal and flexible tone in sessions. I work with individuals, children, adolescents, and adults. In addition, I work with couples and families. I have experience working with those encountering symptoms of anxiety and depression, ADHD, adult child and parent conflict, relationship issues, parenting concerns, adjustment to divorce/break ups, challenges faced by women, and victims of narcissistic relationships, racial stressors, and more.
Professional Affiliations
I am a member of various professional organizations. The national-level organizations I am affiliated with are the American Counseling Association (ACA), the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and the National Association of Black Counselors (NABC). In addition, I am affiliated with the state-level organizations the Arizona Counseling Association (AzCA), where I actively participate in the Multicultural Committee and the Arizona Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AzMFT). I am also affiliated with academic organizations such as Capella University’s Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa and Chi Upsilon Chi Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, where I previously held the leadership position as Chair of the Membership and Academic Committee.
Personal Life
I am originally from Savannah, GA, but I’ve lived in various places, growing up in a military family. I’ve lived in Glendale. AZ with my husband and two kids since 2017. In my free time, I enjoy doing fun activities such as crafting (sewing, soap making, etc.), traveling, cooking, game nights, open mics, binge-watching TV shows, going to the gym, spending time with family, etc.
Client-Centered Relationship
Taking the steps to attend therapy is not easy, which is why I understand the importance of a trusting and confidential therapeutic relationship. My approach is built on empathy, active listening, and collaboration. Within my practice, I will provide a warm, welcoming, safe space free from judgment for you to share your narrative comfortably. Together, we can explore your concerns and develop personal growth and well-being strategies.
